Local authorities prepare to meet with Denver Water Board
February 14, 2008
SUMMIT COUNTY ” The Summit County Sheriff’s Office will sit down with members of the Denver Water Board on Feb. 26 to discuss the safety status of the Dillon Dam Road.
The meeting will discuss Summit County’s ongoing relationship with Denver Water and how to deal with future closures or restrictions along Dillon Dam Road.
An agreement drafted in 1974 allows Denver Water, who owns the water rights in Dillon Reservoir, to halt traffic on the road during an emergency.
A potential homeland security scare on Jan. 9 resulted in the road being closed for nine days, frustrating the thousands of motorists that utilize the road everyday. The meeting will aim to difine the difference between “halt” and “close”, as well as smooth out communication issues that have proved problematic in the past.
