Local jail fees increase from $1 to $20

SUMMIT COUNTY ” County commissioners Monday approved a higher fee at the Summit County Jail for committing and discharging convicted criminals.

At the request of Sheriff John Minor, the fee went from $1 to $20.

The sheriff determined that the fees currently collected are inadequate compared to the actual costs of medical care, utilities and food for inmates.

The $19 increase would mean a $30,000 boost in revenues for the county.
