Local shop featured in national solar tour

Don Sather’s BigHorn ACE hardware store in Silverthorne will be the local stop today for the National Tour of Solar Buildings, sponsored by the American Solar Energy Society.The BigHorn hardware store has been nationally recognized as a model commercial facility for eco-friendly construction and operation. To learn more, visit the store on Blue River Parkway between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A Toyota Prius and Ford Escape, electric-hybrid cars, will be at the site, along with brochures on solar and wind generation systems, energy saving measures for the home, solar design and environmentally friendly products. Innovative Energy, a local company with expertise in mobile and off-the-grid renewable energy technology, will also have displays set up, including the Solar Roller, a trailer-mounted display of a photovoltaic (PV) system and a wind generator. Innovative Energy has installed several of these systems in Summit, Park, and Grand counties and one of their installations is available for viewing between 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Maps to the location (over Ute Pass in Aspen Canyon Ranch) are available at BigHorn in Silverthorne today.
