A-Basin takes steps to offset carbon emissions
Arapahoe Basin Ski Area announced it is making two significant steps to offset carbon emissions produced by the resort and guests. A-Basin said it will be offsetting all of its ski-area fuel use — including gasoline, diesel and propane — through the Colorado Carbon Fund as part of its overall goal to reduce net carbon emissions. The offsets cover the ski area’s snowcats, snowmobiles, highway vehicles, heavy equipment, cooking appliances, building heat and auxiliary power motors for the lifts.
Second, A-Basin is offering a “Snow Huggers Club” add-on to any season pass product. For $30, guests can make their ski or snowboard pass more sustainable by helping to offset carbon emissions from traveling to and from the ski area, and support the High Country Conservation Center, a longtime partner of A-Basin. The offset is based on an average of 10 trips to and from the Denver area, and includes a contribution to HC3. Skiers and snowboarders who choose this option will receive a special Snow Huggers Club card that displays their commitment to a healthier environment and provides extra discounts at A-Basin.
