Christmas tree cutting permits available now

Folks interested in cutting their own Christmas trees are now able to get permits for the White River National Forest at Recreation.gov.

Permits are $10, with an additional $2.50 fee if purchased online. Trees must be for personal use, and there is a limit of five permits per person. Fourth graders are eligible for free permits this year through the Every Kid Outdoors program.

More details, including vendor locations and rules around cutting your own tree, can be found at FS.USDA.gov/whiteriver.

Summit Daily is embarking on a multiyear project to digitize its archives going back to 1989 and make them available to the public in partnership with the Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection. The full project is expected to cost about $165,000. All donations made in 2023 will go directly toward this project.

Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference.
