Governor appoints Breckenridge man to Great Outdoors Colorado board

John “Turk” Montepare, of Breckenridge, has joined the Great Outdoors Colorado board, according to the group.

Two people from each of Colorado’s seven congressional districts are appointed to GOCO’s 17-member board by the governor and confirmed by the Colorado Senate. The executive director of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources and two representatives from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife commission also are on the board.

According to a news release, Montepare has been involved in real estate sales, development and management in Breckenridge and Boston since 1973. He’s also a former hockey coach and has a long history of coaching and service with youth hockey in Summit County and statewide.



He recently retired after 15 years with Arvada Hockey, Summit Hockey, the Continental Divide Youth Hockey League and the Colorado Amateur Hockey Association. He has served on the Summit County and Breckenridge Open Space Committee and the Fifth Judicial District Performance and Review Selection Committee. Additionally, he was recently awarded the Citizen Leadership Award for his contributions to the community.
