An outage caused by a strong gust of wind affected Summit County residents in Breckenridge, Frisco and Blue River Tuesday afternoon. Xcel Energy reported that 1,875 customers were affected after a blue spruce tree fell and struck a ground line near Highway 9 and Gold Hill Road during heavy winds.

“The worst things for us are wet, heavy snow and wind,” said Xcel Energy spokesman Gabriel Romero. “It’s for this exact reason — branches break and trees fall.”

Power was out for just over an hour, from 12:18 to 1:32 p.m. During that time, workers cut the tree into pieces and re-strung the line, Romero said.

SUMMIT HIGH SCHOOL SERANADE

Sue Rogers, with Summit High School in Frisco, said that some classes were moved while the power was down.

“But it was nice because we had the choir singing in the commons area, and it was so quiet because the power was out,” Rogers said.

“They serenaded us for the whole hour.”
