Residents learn inner workings of emergency response

Participants in the Summit County Citizens Fire/EMS Academy are gaining a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of local fire departments. The academy features a series of nine classes immersing participants in all aspects of the fire department, from governance, budgets and funding to fire prevention. Participants also are learning about EMS operations and have received CPR training. Classes this week featured emergency medical response and specialized operations — including hazardous materials, technical rescue, wildland response and auto extrication.
