Sightings of mountain lions, such as this one seen recently in Edwards, are on the rise in Eagle County, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. However, attacks on humans are rare, and officials are reminding residents not to feed wildlife and to educate themselves about the animals.

A mountain lion walks along a hillside near Squaw Creek Road in Edwards on Wednesday. Local photographer Rick Spitzer spotted the cat from the road and photographed it from about 150 feet away. Mountain lions — generally elusive — have been spotted across the county this winter and have killed three dogs in Vail and Red Cliff.
