Summit County Cares Emergency Assistance fund reaches $50,000

The Summit County Cares holiday fundraiser is Summit County’s largest emergency assistance fund. One hundred percent of the money raised in the fundraiser is used to pay rent, utility and medical bills for locals unable to cover those basic expenses.

Money is collected through The Summit Foundation and used to help clients of the Family & Intercultural Resource Center, Advocates for Victims of Assault, Community Care Clinic and Social Services facing eviction, disconnection of heat or in need of medical care.

Always Mountain Time, Comcast Spotlight, Krystal 93 and the Summit Daily News support the campaign by donating thousands of dollars of advertising to inform the community of the fundraiser. Several businesses pitched in for events to support the fundraiser, including the Breckenridge Restaurant Association’s Dining Passport sales, Blue River Bistro, Burke and Riley’s, The Boatyard and Salt Creek for Dine Out to Donate, Grand Lodge on Peak 7’s sponsorship of the Summit County Cares Kid’s Party, Summit Chamber’s support during the COO Breakfast and the town of Frisco from the Santa Dash. These events combined with the generosity of individual and business donors allowed the fundraiser to reach the $50,000 goal, which will allow FIRC to help more than 800 locals get through their emergencies and back on their feet.

Donations are accepted year-round to the Summit County Cares fund at The Summit Foundation. The fundraiser’s success is essential to supporting our neighbors in need. Thank you to all who were able to give this holiday season.

Frisco summer 2014 nonprofit event partnership applications now available

The Town of Frisco invites local nonprofits to become a part of Frisco events by providing key event services while raising funds for their organizations. This opportunity is for local nonprofits of any size.

Summer events with nonprofit partnerships include the Colorado BBQ Challenge, the Frisco Concert in the Park Series and Frisco’s Fabulous 4th of July. Nonprofits are encouraged to become a part of these events which are designed to meet the Town of Frisco’s community goals and sustainability efforts, as well as draw tourism and highlight Frisco’s amenities. Since 2010 the Town of Frisco nonprofit event partnership has contributed $156,000 to nonprofits.

“We couldn’t and wouldn’t want to produce summer events in Frisco without the support and passion of local nonprofits. It makes the event experience more meaningful for everyone,” said Nora Gilbertson, Town of Frisco events manager.

Interested nonprofits are invited fill out an application and return it to the Town of Frisco no later than 5 p.m. on Jan. 10, 2014. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Jan. 10, 2014 and on deadline postmarks will not be valid. Any local nonprofit organization with current 501(c)3 status is encouraged to apply. Wild & Scenic Film Festival to benefit HC3 and CDLT

High Country Conservation Center and Continental Divide Land Trust are teaming up to bring the Wild & Scenic Film Festival to Breckenridge’s Riverwalk Center on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Wild & Scenic offers films that inform, inspire, and ignite imagination and action through stunning visuals and thought-provoking stories.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for happy hour with wine, beer and soft drinks available from the bar. Movies begin at 7 p.m. The films are family friendly and kids are invited too.

The evening also includes a Vintage Patagonia contest with a $50 gift certificate from the Breckenridge Patagonia Store going to the person wearing something old and full of character from Patagonia. Door prizes are also available including an Arapahoe Basin season pass, items from Patagonia, gift certificates from area restaurants, equipment and more.

The evening is hosted by and proceeds benefit High Country Conservation Center and Continental Divide Land Trust, which share complementary missions of resource and land conservation.

Backcountry Film Festival in Breckenridge supports backcountry women

The Winter Wildlands Alliance’s Backcountry Film Festival rolls into Breckenridge Jan. 12 for a night of short, outdoor winter films. The festival is hosted by Backcountry Babes and the Warming Hut. Proceeds will benefit the Backcountry Babes scholarship program, which donates the cost of avalanche education clinics to women who cannot afford to attend the outdoor educational workshops on their own.

Doors open at 6 p.m. with a cash bar, and films start at 7 p.m. at the Eileen and Paul Finkel Auditorium at Colorado Mountain College, 107 Denison Placer Rd., in Breckenridge.
