Long-term consequences should be considered

The strategy of our enemies is to break our will to defend ourselves. The Islamic fundamentalists will try to inflict as many casualties as possible. The Democrats, together with the press, will be working hand-in-hand with them to raise the call to withdraw our troops and aid the terrorists in accomplishing their goal.

This would, of course, undo our recent victory in Iraq and send a message to the world that our tradition of an open society can be used to nullify our superiority in mass and firepower; poison public opinion with the continual drumbeat of bad news; allow terrorists free reign under the guise of “religious freedom.”

What no one is thinking about is the long-term consequences. Fundamentalists have a way of shutting the door behind them on freedom and tolerance once they seize power.
