On Wednesday, Feb. 8, Loveland Ski Area officially started free snowcat skiing along the Continental Divide for the first time of 2022-23 season.

Loveland Ski Area announced the news the day prior through its social media channels, further sparking the excitement for the unique terrain opening.

For those not aware, Loveland Ski Area offers free snowcat skiing along the Continental Divide via the “Ridge Cat.” The snowcat allows skiers to explore some of Loveland’s most exhilarating terrain with a free ride up in the Ridge Cat.

The Ridge Cat will transport up to 18 passengers along the North side of Loveland Ski Area’s ridge in order to provide access to Field of Dreams, Velvet Hammer, Tickler, 13,010 and Marmot when conditions permit.

In order to access the free snowcat ride, skiers and riders are required to have a valid season pass or a lift ticket with a Ridge Cat pass. Ridge Cat passes can be picked up free of charge at the Loveland Basin ticket office after buying a lift ticket for the day.

The Ridge Cat will pick up a new group of skiers and riders just beyond Gate 1 North off of Lift 9 and will drop skiers and riders off at Gate 4 North.

The Ridge Cat will operate Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. as conditions and weather permit. The terrain is classified as most difficult and expert.
