SUMMIT COUNTY – Lower Blue residents worried about the fire danger posed by dead and dying lodgepole pines may get some relief this summer.District Forest Service Ranger Rick Newton has authorized the 723-acre Lower Blue Wildland Urban Interface Fuel Reduction Project, which consists of fuel breaks up to 400-feet wide near residential neighborhoods in the Lower Blue. About 464 acres are suitable for mechanical removal (including 259 acres in roadless areas), while 259 acres are slated for hand treatment.The decision is subject to a 45-day appeal period.
