Lyons may open new doors for film festival

KIMBERLY NICOLETTI

BRECKENRIDGE – As the Breckenridge Festival of Film gears up to become one of the premier film festivals in the nation, it’s collaboration with Ben Lyons looks promising. On August 25, MTV officially announced Lyons as the host of a new MTV show called “Your Movie Show.” For the position, Jack Black and Will Smith interviewed Lyons, who follows in his father, Jeffrey’s, footsteps as a movie buff; Jeffrey Lyons is a syndicated WNBC film critic who has hosted most of the Breckenridge Festival of Film gatherings in its 24 years. Ben Lyons will host “Your Movie Show” with current MTV VJ SuChin Pak. It premieres Sept. 24. His first celebrity assignments involved Angelina Jolie and Will Smith last week. “I grew up watching movies with my dad and I grew up watching MTV with my friends, so this whole experience has been surreal,” he said. He has been actively involved in the Breckenridge Festival of Film since 2002 and will be at the 24th annual festival Sept. 9-12. Karin Penegor, film festival committee head, believes Ben Lyon’s involvement in the television and movie business will attract a new generation of filmmakers and celebrities to Breckenridge.”He is going to be out and about interviewing all of the movie mover and shakers and inviting them to come here,” Penegor said. “It’s going to open a whole new door for us.””This year, he has invited an exciting group of people from the industry to help filmmakers at Breckenridge get their work seen by people in the business,” said Jen Radueg, festival coordinator. His production company, Ruff Sketch Productions, in collaboration with Zack Sherman, produced seven music videos and three seasons of the nationally syndicated show “Hip-hop Nation.” The duo also is developing several television and DVD projects.
