What goods do you make here in Summit County? How much do they cost? We make a small-batch specialty barbecue sauce using bourbon from the Breckenridge Distillery. Our future sauces will include recipes using Colorado Western Slope Palisade peaches, apples and other unique flavor combinations. We are also a member of the Colorado Proud initiative, where locally sourced products are made and sold in Colorado.

A 12-ounce bottle of our Breckenridge 9600’ BBQ Sauce retails for $12.99; larger volume containers with wholesale pricing are available by request.

What’s great about making your products here? I’ve been a local for a little more than 10 years now, and I have friends in several places; the bank, supermarket, doctor and dentist offices, the post office, restaurants, shops, real estate offices, etc. These people truly embody the idea of supporting a local business — they are all excited to share in the success of my business. These friends are great, true cheerleaders! Also, I have found all of the vendors I need within the county. It’s really amazing the number of resources a small business has access to here in Summit County.

What’s new with your company or product? Since 2007, I have been making my own barbecue sauce — family and friends loved it, but I wasn’t selling it; mostly, I was donating it. In the spring of 2013, I connected with a friend at the Breckenridge Distillery and pitched the idea of using their bourbon in my recipe. After a barbecue sauce taste testing for the distillery staff, they agreed to sell my sauce. They are a great team of supportive people who produce wonderful products in Summit County.

Why do you think it’s important for people in Summit County to buy locally made goods? That’s a great question. Several things come to mind. One in particular is that buying locally made products keeps currency moving within the county — the shops who sell our product employ local people, these people, in turn, purchase things within the county, and this circle keeps going around and around. Another aspect about locally made Summit County products is that an actual person had a hand in making the product, not a large, faceless manufacturing facility — personal attention is paid to product details.

How can people find out more about your products? Currently our “brick and mortar” retail locations are directly connected with the Breckenridge Distillery: at their Breckenridge Main Street tasting room on the Blue River Plaza and the distillery on Airport Road. Also, several local shops and restaurants that plan to sell our product are in the queue. In the near future, customers can buy our barbecue sauce on our website, — stay tuned! In the meantime, people can find us at the distillery locations and on their website,
