Make a Difference and help plant trees on the peninsula on Saturday

Oct. 13 is countywide Make a Difference Day and the Town of Frisco’s project is planting trees on the Peninsula. More than 60 volunteers are needed for trail work and tree planting. Councilmember Woody Van Gundy donated a 4-foot Limber Pine tree and the Town has 250 seedlings that need to be planted. The Town will provide snacks, water, gloves, hand tools and other supplies for the planting effort. To volunteer go online to the Summit Prevention Alliance website at and click on the Make a Difference Day tab to fill out the online participant registration form. Meet at the Summit Stage bus barns at 8 a.m. and enjoy a free breakfast before heading out to the Peninsula. Bring canned goods to fill local food banks and be sure to bring your own water. The Town is working towards reforestation of the Peninsula Recreation Area following the recent removal of pine beetle infested trees and other trees to improve the forest health. Some planting has already taken place with most of the reforestation work will start in the spring. Recently, the Town relocated three specimen Colorado Spruce trees and one 25-foot Aspen tree from the West Main construction area to the peninsula. Please call Rick Higgins at Frisco Public Works for more information on the Peninsula pine beetle removal and the reforestation projects at (970) 668-0836.
