Make your dog a star
December 26, 2005
Is your dog ready for “the big time”? Is she a natural ham? Incredibly photogenic? Then she may be the perfect candidate … for Sylvia.
This February, the Backstage Theatre will present A.R. Gurney’s romantic comedy, “Sylvia.” Sylvia is a stray dog taken in by a Manhattan couple. In the play, the dog is portrayed by a woman on stage, but at the end of the show, an enlarged picture of “the real” Sylvia is revealed to the audience. The Backstage Theatre is looking for the perfect Sylvia to use for this photo (and possibly for the show posters).Sylvia is a sassy, brassy canine who flirts shamelessly, appreciates Cole Porter music, has a deep understanding of Homer’s Iliad, and who wholly embraces the animal instincts of her species.
If you think your dog is the perfect Sylvia, please send us her picture. Photos can be in digital format or regular prints. E-mail or snail-mail submissions should arrive by 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6 at which time the cast and crew will vote on the perfect Sylvia to use in the show. The Backstage Theatre will announce four runners-up and the winner on the Summit Daily News’ Petscene page the following week (Jan. 10).
