Man accused of burying dead mother in homemade coffin

PUEBLO ” A man accused of digging a grave and burying his mother’s body in a homemade casket was arrested on charges of concealing a death, abusing a corpse and trespassing.

Pueblo County sheriff’s deputies said they found Clark Raymond Williams, 44, of Pueblo early Thursday at the site of a freshly covered grave in Roselawn Cemetery after someone reported the sound of digging.

Deputies said Williams told them his mother had died of natural causes a month ago and he had just buried her in the 8-foot-long, 6-foot-deep grave.

Coroner James Kramer identified the dead woman as Ruth Eileen Williams, 75.

Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Bryant said Friday there was no evidence of foul play in the woman’s death, but the cause was not immediately known. An autopsy was planned.

Clark Williams was being held without bail.
