Man arrested for allegedly harassing black man

GRAND JUNCTION – Authorities arrested a 37-year-old man here this week for allegedly harassing a black driver and running him off the road with his pickup truck.John Mann of Fruita is accused of using racial slurs to intimidate Michael L. Brown, 30, of Grand Junction, said Kris Olson, spokeswoman for the Grand Junction Police Department.Mann was booked late Tuesday on suspicion of ethnic intimidation, reckless endangerment, harassment and reckless driving. Information about an attorney for Mann was not immediately available Thursday.Brown told police he was driving west on a local highway when Mann began following him, yelling racial slurs and making obscene hand gestures. Police say Mann pulled alongside Brown’s car and tried to run him off the road by swerving toward him.However, Mann’s pickup spun out of control, hit a curb and rolled upright into a ditch, police reports say. Mann told police Brown initiated the confrontation by making an obscene gesture.
