Man dies after cardiac arrest at the Summit County Jail

BRECKENRIDGE — Authorities say a 33-year-old Leadville man who experienced cardiac arrest at the Summit County Jail while deputies were trying to stop him from harming himself has died.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office says Zackary Dean Moffitt collapsed Tuesday morning and was taken to a nearby hospital.

He was then flown to a hospital in Lakewood and taken off life support Saturday at the request of his family.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office will investigate the death.

Moffitt was being held on an outstanding warrant and for violation of a civil protection order. The charges originated in Lake County.
