SUMMIT COUNTY – A man charged with attempted second degree murder was in stable condition Friday at a Denver hospital, where both he and an unidentified woman are believed to be recovering from multiple stab wounds.

Steven Carter, 31, and the 44-year-old woman were found unconscious in a hallway of the Wildflower complex on Illinois Gulch Road near Breckenridge early Wednesday morning, according to a previous report from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

Hospital spokeswoman Cindy Rigot confirmed Carter’s condition at St. Anthony Central Hospital on Friday afternoon, but the woman’s status was unavailable because her name has not been released.

Summit County Coroner Joanne Richardson confirmed Friday afternoon that the woman had not died.

Carter and the woman were driven and flown, respectively, to the hospital Wednesday where they were reportedly in critical condition. Deputies responded to the Wildflower complex at 1:55 a.m. Wednesday on a report of domestic violence in progress.

Carter appeared to have repeatedly stabbed himself with a knife after the woman – who later underwent several hours of surgery – was stabbed. Carter is in custody at the hospital, according to a previous report.

Charges against Carter include attempted second degree murder, domestic violence and violation of bail bond conditions, according to a previous report.
