Man shot in Park County had weapons, drugs in home

PARK COUNTY – A man who the Park County S.W.A.T. team shot and killed on Saturday had a large marijuana growing operation and numerous weapons inside his home, according to the Park County Sheriff’s Office. An officer opened fire on Roger Talbert when the team attempted to serve a search warrant at his Placer Valley home, and Talbert apparently charged one officer and tried to wrestle away his gun.Talbert died on the way to the hospital. He had been wanted since Friday evening when he caused a scene at a local government office, then fled into the woods with a handgun when police tried to stop him.On Sunday, the El Paso County Metro Bomb Squad and the Park County Sheriff’s Office surveyed Talbert’s house for possible booby traps. While they did not find any booby traps, they did discover a large sophisticated marijuana growing operation, numerous strategically placed firearms, a police scanner, a large assortment of knives, survival gear and a gillie suit, which is designed to camouflage someone on mountain terrain. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is looking into the officer shooting portion of the investigation and will advise the District Attorney’s Office of their findings.
