Man shot to death outside Rifle apartment

A man died in a shooting early Wednesday evening in Rifle.

The incident occurred in north Rifle on the 2600 block Acacia Avenue, outside an apartment building. Residents reported hearing shots from the nearby Kum & Go convenience store.

Rifle Chief of Police Tommy Klein said that while the matter remained under investigation later Wednesday, “it was not a random act.”

The victim was a male, but no identity was provided.

The Rifle Police Department was working the case with the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. Rifle police asked that anyone with information call 970-665-6500.

No arrests had been made by early Thursday morning, according to a news release. It was the county’s first homicide of 2017.
