March snowstorm roars through Colo.

Special too the Daily

DENVER Ski resorts in southwestern Colorado are reporting more than a foot of new snow in the last eight hours from a fierce winter snowstorm roaring across Colorado from the west. Twenty-one Colorado counties are currently under snow advisories, watches or severe weather warnings. This snowstorm comes on the heels of the best early- and mid-winter snow conditions Colorado has seen in more than 20 years, said Rob Perlman, President and CEO of Colorado Ski Country USA. This is just the start of what is typically our snowiest month of the year. With a third left in our season, this storm sets us up for phenomenal spring skiing and riding into May and well beyond this year. Durango (Purgatory), Powderhorn, Silverton, Telluride and Wolf Creek are all digging out from the storm, which has already dropped a foot or more of fresh powder on their slopes. Elsewhere in the state, Sunlight, Howelsen, Monarch, Steamboat, Snowmass, Eldora, Crested Butte and Aspen Highlands have all received as much as six inches of fresh snow in the last 24 hours. The National Weather Service is forecasting continued snowfall across the state of Colorado through the remaining part of the week and into the weekend.
