Maroon Bells Scenic Area to open this weekend

ASPEN ” The White River National Forest will open Maroon Creek Road (south of Aspen) to motorized use on Friday, May 25. Visitors to the Maroon Bells Scenic Area will experience full services and amenities in the area and an access road that has recently had work performed on it by Pitkin County.

The Maroon Bells Welcome Station will sell daily and seasonal pass passes.

Daily passes cost $10 per vehicle and allow use for five consecutive days.

Seasonal passes cost $25 for a year.

New this year, is the interagency “America the Beautiful Pass.” This pass provides access to at all federal recreation areas throughout the USA and sells for $80. The use fees collected at the Welcome Station are reinvested in the Maroon Bells Scenic

Area to provide for better maintenance of campgrounds, restrooms, picnic

areas, signs, and trail maintenance.

Silver Bar, Bell and Queen Campgrounds will be open with full services, on

a first come-first served basis. The cost for camping is $15 per night, and

some reservation sites are available for an additional fee. The campgrounds

can be reserved after May 27 as well as East Maroon Group Portal Picnic

Bus service from Aspen Highlands to Maroon Lake will begin on Saturday,

June 16. All day users will be required to take the bus between 9 a.m. and

5 p.m. The cost is for the bus trip is $6 per person, seniors and children

$3.50.
