Marshal Service to review complaints from Denver agents

DENVER – The Air Marshal Service will review complaints by Denver-based marshals who told a television station that security lapses have compromised their anonymity and may put them and airline passengers in danger, Sen. Wayne Allard said Wednesday.KMGH-TV in Denver reported Tuesday that five agents, whom it did not identify, blamed their managers for creating the security lapses or failing to fix them. The report did not offer specifics of the alleged lapses and said the agents did not want to reveal sensitive or classified information.A report by the House Judiciary Committee made public last month said air marshals’ anonymity was threatened by the service’s dress code, which it said prevents them from blending in with other passengers, and by requirements that the agents stay in designated hotels and show their credentials when they check in there.Allard, R-Colo., said the Air Marshal Service will immediately launch a two-week management review of the Denver office followed by a more in-depth inspection within 60 days.Air marshals spokesman Conan Bruce said outside officials will review policies at the Denver office and results will be shared with Allard and Sen. Ken Salazar, D-Colo. He said the review will focus in part in trying to determine the specifics of the allegations.Depending on how sensitive the findings are, the results may not be made public, Bruce said. The service has reviewed the complaints that surfaced in the May Judiciary Committee report and has changed policies, but those changes will not be made public, he said.
