Maryann Gaug: Ah, cheap mountain gas!
I would like to thank Summit County gas stations, especially most of those located in Silverthorne/Dillon, for now selling gas for less than in the Denver metro area. We all complain when gas prices are 10 to 20 cents more than in the metro area, and understandably so. However, I don’t recall anyone ever expressing appreciation when most gas stations in the county offer prices lower than or the same as those in the metro area.
I was in Denver last week and gas prices typically ranged from $1.84 to $1.90 a gallon for regular. Exception was one King Soopers with $1.78 per gallon (or $1.75 with card). A friend mentioned the same experience to me when she traveled to Denver last Saturday.
One gas station in Silverthorne is presently $1.74, another $1.77 for regular.
Cheaper gas in Summit County is not totally unusual. For many years, there have been a number of times when gas has been less expensive up here. When prices do rise, our gas stations typically raise them a few cents at a time. Metro gas stations have a reputation for raising the price of gas 10 cents in the middle of the day.
Thanks again, local stations, for being less expensive than Denver right now. May our Front Range visitors find you and buy their gas up here instead of down there.
