Math on weather story not quite right

Paul OlsonBreckenridge

Re: Streak of welcome wet weather persists (SDN Jan. 4)Your math teacher must have been stricken with horror when reading your article comparing this early season snowfall amounts with past averages. This year’s total of 41.9 inches of early season snow is a 91 percent increase over the historical average of 21.9 inches, not a 52 percent increase as stated in the article. A 52 percent increase over the 21.9 inch historical average would have resulted in a 11.4 inch increase, or a 33.3 inch total. When you negotiate your next pay increase, I suggest you do so in dollars, not percentages.
