McClure Benefit raises $17,000 for Summit Recycling Project

SPECIAL TO THE DAILY

FRISCO – More than 300 people attended the 16th annual Tim McClure Memorial Benefit for Summit Recycling Project (SRP) last week and helped to raise more than $17,000.”In terms of attendance, I think it was our biggest year yet,” said SRP director Carly Wier. “We’re really happy with the final numbers.”The annual fundraiser supports SRP’s waste reduction and recycling programs.About 10 percent of the organization’s total funding comes from various fundraisers and individual donations. The remainder of SRP’s funding comes from the sale of recyclable materials, program service fees, contributions from local and county governments and grants. The McClure Benefit is the largest single fundraising event.SRP was founded in 1976 by the late Tim McClure and the event is held in his name each year. This year the organization unveiled plans for the materials recovery facility to be built and the Summit County landfill this summer. The facility will improve the efficiencies of recycling in Summit County and allow more people to recycle more items.”I think we can all be proud of what our community has done to reduce waste and conserve resources, especially by supporting this new facility” Wier said. “I think Tim would be very proud to see what this community has done to support his vision for a less wasteful world.”
