Medians are a good choice |

Medians are a good choice

Scott Teetsel, Dillon Valley

I would like to respond the Summit Daily article on Aug. 2 “New median frustrates business owners.” I drive through that section of highway many times each and every day. I have seen many accidents and many more near-misses.

I believe that the median is a blessing and will make traffic flow smoother by not allowing cars to race across four lanes at a time. These drivers (not always tourists, but frequently employees) put everyone’s lives at risk to save a minute or two.

Many of the business owners in that area have been complaining that their customers and employees can no longer make a left turn out of their parking lots. Sorry to break it to all of you, but they shouldn’t have been doing it in the first place.

A few years ago, Frisco installed its median up and down Highway 9 and restricted left turns only to places with traffic lights. This caused some initial headaches, but most people don’t think twice about it now and traffic flows smoothly down Highway 9.

If someone wants to go to the Silverthorne Texaco or Blue Valley Liquors or one of the other local businesses there, they’ll still go. You’ll still get your pizza from Domino’s, but it will be safer. I look forward to seeing that entire section completed and traffic flowing smoothly and safely.
