Of course Sarah Terrill likes it when people come into her business, A&A Pet Supply & Feed, to purchase something, but some come in just seeking a smile, which she doesn’t mind one bit.

“We have people who come in just to see Frankie and Lucy,” Sarah Terrill. “Frankie, he’s just the cutest thing. Everyone loves to love on Frankie.”

“Doesn’t matter what your mood is, when you see a cute little dog or cat, you’re bound to feel better and smile,” she added.

Frankie is a 1.5-year-old Dachshund-Yorkie mix, or a dorkie. He joins the ranks of Jessie the golden retriever and Lucy the cat.

“He leaps and bounds to everyone, and if he really likes you, he’ll let you pet him right away,” Terrill said. “He does spend a lot of time on the front counter sleeping in the sunshine.”

His spunk earned him the title of Best Shop Pet in the 2024 Best of Summit contest. A&A also took home the title of Best Place to Work (fewer than 20 employees), Best Pet Supply Store and Best Pet Washing, along with finalist honors in Best Pet Friendly Business.

How Frankie came into Terrill’s life makes him even sweeter. Terrill got him at a trade show in California while shopping for the store. She was in a vulnerable state having just lost a friend days earlier, and just finished breast cancer treatments.

“My last day there, there was a guy walking around with a wagon with these dogs,” Terrill said.” The next thing I know I’m walking down an aisle with him in my arms and he falls asleep in my arms.”

A woman said to Terrill that she would take the dog if Terrill didn’t want him. That sealed the deal for Terrill.

Frankie has even changed how Terrill runs her business, as she’s gained a new appreciation for small dogs and has changed her inventory to specialize for small dogs, including backpacks to carry them, as well as additional small dog toys and treats.

“He’s still the best dog I could have ever asked for,” Terrill said. “I never knew I needed a 12-pound, one-handed, little ball of fury in my life.”
