Meet the Lake Dillon Theatre summer actors: Garrett Bruce

Daily News staff report
Garrett Bruce
ALL |

Name: Garrett Bruce

Grew up in: The bayou country of Louisiana.

Roles you play in Lake Dillon: “Jesus” in Godspell, “Mark” in Altar Boyz,

and “Ensemble (aka. Everyone Else)” in The Who’s Tommy.

Best part of being here for the summer: The excellent company and the remarkable views!

Worst/most challenging part of being here: The lack of oxygen. There’s definitely a period of adjustment.

What movie or show character do you most identify with and why? Shug Avery from “The Color Purple.” She’s a firecracker. Not to mention that song she sings.

What’s the most memorable role you’ve played and why? I played “Claude” in Hair (which I think is a continuously relevant show) in my last year of college with 30 or so of my closest friends. Also, playing “Mark” in RENT last year somewhat fulfilled my 13-year-old theatre-geek dreams.

Role you most want to play and why? “Gabe” or “Henry” in Next to Normal. I love the show!

Two songs that portray your personality or current life situation: “It’s Great to Be Here” by The Jackson 5, and “(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher” by Rita Coolidge.

What’s one of your quirks? I do a mean “Gollum/Smeagol” impression from “The Lord of the Rings” movie trilogy.

Anything else you want to reveal about yourself? I am a passionate albeit amateur cook/foodie – Cajun delicacies being my specialty!

Favorite Quote: “… And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true.”
