Meeting in Frisco to discuss independent business alliance
special to the daily
SUMMIT COUNTY ” The bookmarks given out with every purchase at the Next Page bookstore in Frisco have a message on the back which says, “Did you know … For every $100 spent in an independent business, $73 stays in the community, compared to only $43 for a national chain.”
“That says it all,” says Karen Berg, who co-owns the local bookstore with her husband, Jim. The Bergs, along with other Summit County business owners, are planning to attend a discussion this Tuesday about the possibility of launching a Summit County Independent Business Alliance.
Business owners and concerned citizens are welcome to attend Tuesday’s brainstorming session, which, according to event spokesperson Katie Roberts, will serve to gauge the local level of interest in such an alliance, and outline its benefits to Summit County’s locally-owned businesses.
“We’re curious to learn about people’s concerns, to get their support, and listen to any suggestions they might have,” Roberts said.
On the table for discussion will be the possibility of local businesses starting a local affiliation with the American Independent Business Alliance, which will hold its Colorado Summit on Community Economic and Environmental Vitality, a one-day workshop, on May 27 at the Summit County Community and Senior Center in Frisco.
During Tuesday’s meeting, there will also be an overview of statistics relating to Independent Business Alliance memberships in other communities, with additional information on how they have managed to coexist side by side with ” and complement the work of ” local chambers of commerce, Roberts said.
– A brainstorming/information session for a possible Summit County Independent Business Alliance will be held Tuesday at 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Summit County Community and Senior Center, 151 Peak One Blvd, Frisco.
