Mentor of the Month: Tony Harris

Special to the DailyTony Harris is Summit County's Mentor of the Month.

“I get as much out of Mountain Mentors as I put into it. Especially now that I’m an ’empty nester’. I find that mentoring is a great and fun way to make a difference. Although it takes some commitment, these kids enrich my life.”

“I have mentored two boys. Having raised daughters, the opportunity to do “boy stuff” has been fun. Also, being part of their schoolwork is rewarding and important.”

“My parents. Their strong work ethic was important to me. They were always supportive of anything I did, even moving halfway around the world.”

“Alaska. That’s where I met my wife. We lived there from 1974 to 1978. I was all over the state.”

“Mentoring two boys who had a completely different life than I did at their age. I had a charmed upbringing. It’s been meaningful to help kids who don’t have the things I had growing up. Seeing the problems they face on a daily basis is tough.”
