Mesa State awards posthumous diploma to good Samaritan
GRAND JUNCTION ” A western Colorado woman who died while trying to help a truck driver has been awarded a posthumous diploma from Mesa State College.
Twenty-eight-year-old Christina Sterling-Soffel was struck by a car and died when she stopped to assist a trucker who had jackknifed on Interstate 70 in western Colorado in January.
She had earned two bachelor’s degrees, in business management and business marketing, and an associate’s degree in biology.
Her sister Jennifer accepted the diploma at Mesa State’s commencement Saturday. Her father, Mike Sterling, and husband, Mike Soffel, also attended.
