Michigan man dies after fall at A-Basin

A 32-year-old skier from Michigan died after a bad fall on an intermediate run at the Arapahoe Basin Ski Area Wednesday afternoon.

, a firefighter, died of blunt force trauma to the chest after he apparently lost control while moving at a high rate of speed and tumbled several times on the Larkspur run around 3:15 p.m., according to Summit County Coroner Joanne Richardson.

When ski patrol arrived at the scene Bettley was in cardiac arrest and was taken by helicopter to Summit Medical Center where he was pronounced dead just after 4 p.m.



He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Bettley was a firefighter with the Redford Township Fire Department in Michigan.
