Mike Dudick: 2D an economic must for Breckenridge

Mike Dudick
Breckenridge Town Council Member
Grand Lodge on Peak 7, Grand Timber Lodge Developer

I’m Mike Dudick and I’m a conservative. My business partners, Rob and Mike Millisor, are both quite liberal. Together we developed Grand Timber Lodge and Grand Lodge on Peak 7.

We argue, debate and then agree on every material decision in our business. We do the same politically and almost never agree – except on 2D. 2D is a question that transcends political ideology and speaks specifically to the economic health of Breckenridge.

No matter which side of the fence you sit, no matter where you are on big government or lower taxes, liberal or conservative, if you love our way of life, if your paycheck is dependent on tourism (which everyone living here is), if you are a voter in Breckenridge, 2D is a must yes vote.

Why?

One: It’s not a tax on locals. 2D increases the Breckenridge lodging tax 1 percent on visitors, with every penny earmarked for marketing future guests to our town.

Two: The Breckenridge Lodging Association completely supports 2D. Ask a lodging expert “yes or no on 2D?” They will say “yes.”

Three: 2D can help to revitalize our real estate industry. No one ever bought real estate in Breck without first coming here as a tourist. Think about it: We need to refill the pipeline with potential buyers of Breck to turn around the real estate industry.

Four: Our way of life is dependent on tourism. Every recreational amenity in Breckenridge requires tourist tax dollars to operate at current levels – rec center, ice rink, our trail system, golf course, Riverwalk Center, performing arts, you name it – they depend on supplemental funding from tourism.

Five: 2D will make us competitive with our neighbors. Vail and Aspen area spend nearly twice what we spend on marketing. Leave that be and they will prevail economically. 2D levels the playing field.

Six through Twenty Two: Give me a call or visit http://www.yeson2d.com. Knowledge is the power in voting. In today’s political climate if the left and right agree on an issue, it’s time to pay attention.

The more you know about 2D the more passionate your “yes” becomes.
