Minor making a major differencein the Sheriff’s Office

Maribeth McLeeSilverthorne

My thanks to Richard Peacock (SDN, July 9) for pointing out that sheriff candidate Mike Phibbs looks good on paper and has an active social life. I personally don’t know the man. Here’s what I do know: Since there is a new sheriff in the county, I have seen more sheriffs on patrol all over the place in Summit County than I ever had in the past. I consider this a welcome sight, since I work in both the lodging and retail business, and often leave to go to work when most normal human beings are tucked into bed for the night.I have encountered John Minor on the job when he was a sergeant in the Silverthorne Police Department and found him to be an effective, honest, man of integrity – in other words, the kind of law enforcement representative we need in Summit County. I have also taken the opportunity to ask some of the other deputies how they feel about their new boss, and had 100 percent positive comments from all of them! From my limited view of Summit County life and politics as an average citizen, I prefer the hands-on approach that I’m seeing from Sheriff John Minor. I will be casting my vote based on performance, not paper.Maribeth McLeeSilverthorne
