And here we have one more column filled with useful pieces of computer and internet information. A little of this, a little of that. If you don’t find anything useful today, then drop me an e-mail and let me know what you’d like to read about. – Have you ever worked on a Word document and tried to match a font to a letterhead? Or wanted to create a business card using a font you saw on a sign? Trying to guess the name of a font you’ve seen isn’t such a challenge when there are online tools like Identifont ready and waiting to help you out. Go to http://www.identifont.com and click on “Identify a Font” to begin your search.

If Identifont doesn’t locate what you’re searching for, try heading over to http://www.myfonts.com and clicking on “What the Font.”- Confused by computer abbreviations like KB, MB and GB? Be confused no longer. First, know that most data in computers is measured in small units of information called bytes. A kilobyte (KB) is about 1,000 bytes. A megabyte (MB) is about 1,000,000 bytes. And yup, you guessed it, a gigabyte (GB) is about one billion bytes. Here are some real-world examples: Your company’s logo file might be 30 KB. A backup of all of your digital photos might be about 80 MB. The hard drive in your computer might be about 80 GB (and your kid’s iPod might be about 20GB).For advanced computer users out there looking for a way to get rid of the Windows XP logon screen, take a look here: http://tinyurl.com/6fx2u.

– Do you sometimes find yourself wishing you had a tech support guy who talked to you in “normal” computer talk? Do you sometimes find yourself wishing that you didn’t have to pay so much money for computer tech support in the first place?Enter Help2Go! Help2Go (www.help2go.com) is a “community committed to offering free computer help and tutorials in a way that everyone can understand, not ‘geek-speak.'” Find tutorials, step-by-step instructions with plenty of pictures, and perhaps even a few friends. Talk with people just like yourself in a friendly forum, and quickly receive answers for your computer-related questions. Why not give it a shot?- Quick Sports Search: Did you miss the big game? Wonder who won? Just go to yahoo.com and type the name of your team into the Search Box followed by the word “scores.” Example: Nuggets scores. Quick results for those of us who don’t have any bookmarks for sports pages.

– Public Service Reminder: Remember to empty your Desktop’s Recycle Bin every once in a while to ensure your computer doesn’t get bogged down. How? Right-click your Desktop’s Recycle Bin icon with your mouse and simply select “Empty Recycle Bin.” Piece of cake.See you all next time.eRin pheiL is the owner of timeforcake (www.timeforcake.com), based in Frisco. eRin can be reached via phone at (970) 668-0709, or e-mail at info@timeforcake.com.
