More terrain opens Saturday at Breck

Daily News staff report

BRECKENRIDGE – Officials at Breckenridge Ski Resort will open more terrain, two lifts and features in the Gold King Terrain Park in anticipation for weekend skiers and riders.

“Our mountain crews continue to work around the clock preparing more terrain for opening,” said Roger McCarthy, chief operating officer for the resort. “We’re hoping for another shot of powder from Mother Nature, and will continue making snow as conditions allow.”

New terrain scheduled to open at Breckenridge this weekend includes the Little Burn, Lower American and Gold King trails, as well as the Gold King Terrain Park with one-to-two tables and one-to-two rails available.

The Gold King Park is a more difficult park with generally smaller features. The new trails and the Gold King Terrain Park will open to skiers and riders at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

With the addition of the new terrain, Breckenridge will offer more than 100 acres of skiing and riding on a 21-inch mid-mountain base. Currently, Breckenridge has three trails open, including the combination of Columbia and Sundown, as well as Bonanza and Silverthorne.

In addition, the resort will open two more lifts, the Mercury SuperChair and the Village Carpet. These lifts will begin operation for the season at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Current open lifts include the Beaver Run SuperChair, the QuickSilver Super6 and the Camelback.
