Morin: Today’s lack of moral character

Amanda Morin, Blue River

Re: “Can we even define what integrity is anymore,” letter, Aug. 2

I feel as though I could have written Stu Goodner’s letter to the editor August 2. As a 48-year-old mother of four, I have spent years feeling discouraged about the “integrity” of people these days. But Stu fails, as many other people do, to acknowledge the reason behind this lack of moral character today – accountability. Without accountability to a higher power, a greater being than ourselves, we are left floundering for a reason to be anything but selfish! As John Adams wisely put it, “Our constitution was made for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other”.
