Mort Kraus: Why not tax the rich?

What’s your point? If you are referring to certain tax proposals, the adjective that is used to describe a level of income is irrelevant, just as your generalization about the astuteness and prudence of the wealthy is irrelevant. We tax based on the actual amount of a person’s or family’s income. That is a number. When people who don’t want their taxes increased play with words like “rich” and “wealth” they are planning to influence others to not support tax increases. Is your income over $200,000 or $250,000 or is your Income in the top 2 percent in the U.S? If so, say it, and tell us why you shouldn’t have a tax increase.
