Mount Evans and Trail Ridge roads reopen for summer
IDAHO SPRINGS – Coloradans heading to the mountains for the Memorial Day weekend can drive up Mount Evans effective Friday.And Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park also has opened.Mount Evans is one of Colorado’s “fourteeners,” because it stretches 14,264 feet above sea level. Summit Lake is about 1,200 vertical feet below the summit.The road opened Friday, although state transportation officials say it’s still wet and icy in spots.Trail Ridge Road travels through the park near Estes Park at altitudes of more than 12,000 feet above sea level.It’s billed as the highest continuous paved road in the United States.
