Mountain House to balance River Run’s shopping at Keystone

KEYSTONE ” Vail Resorts vice president Alex Iskenderian, who manages the company’s development projects at Keystone and Breckenridge, said the vision for the Mountain House is for an upscale, residential-feeling place, contrasting with the commercial flavor of River Run.
The redevelopment would include a mix of building types including clustered single-family homes and two-story townhomes, with site plans designed to take advantage of the riverside setting.
Vail Resorts will try to incorporate environment-friendly, sustainable in the design, Iskenderian said.
“We’re exploring the potential of geothermal for the snowmelt systems,” he said.
Three buildings would be significantly taller than allowed under existing zoning, which restricts building height to 48 feet., or about four stories. Along with reconstruction of a resort service, road, Iskenderian said the building heights are the most significant issue from a land-use planning perspective.
Two of the buildings would be about 68 feet high. A third, set right against the base of the mountain, would be 78 feet, about as tall as some of the buildings at River Run.
