Mountain Vista B&B saved the day when mother and daughter were stranded when interstate closed

Cathy and Katie Podest, Glenwood Springs

I want to take the opportunity to say the biggest and best thank you to Sandy Ruggaber from Mountain Vista Bed & Breakfast inSilverthorne. My daughter and I – and hundreds of other travelers – found ourselves stranded in Frisco, Dillon and Silverthorne March 16 for variousreasons when we were stopped cold in our tracks with the closure of Interstate 70.We unfortunately shopped first and had a hey day, till we looked for a place to stay. Hotel after hotel after hotel was booked. We stopped at chain locations and mom and pop places, and they were all booked, which is understandable. But in every case but one hotel, all of the front desk people were the most rude, inconsiderate front-line employees I HAVE EVER MET!I live in a resort town and know the importance of tourists, whether they are there on their own will or stranded. The Best Western Ptarmigan Inn in Dillon was full, but the gal at the front desk was the only one who offered me a phone book to call other places and suggested a bed and breakfast. After calling two or three, I came upon Sandy, who only had a pull-out sofa and GLADLY offered it to my weary 13-year-old and me.She took us in as family, turned on the fireplace, offered us warm blankets, food, drinks and a friendly and homey place. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! to Sandy!Anyone going through Silverthorne, or who lives there, give her a hug, call for a visit or book a night. She is a gem.Thank you again, Sandy! Too bad you can’t teach the other front desk personnel theimportance and the appreciation of old-fashionedcustomer service.Hope to see you at Frisco on the Fourth of July, and we’ll will cook you a funnel cake, on the house.
