Mud and rock slides close road accessing popular recreation site below Green Mountain Reservoir dam in Heeney

A rock and mud slide has caused the Bureau of Reclamation to close Summit County Road 1812, which accesses an area below Green Mountain Dam and its power plant.

The closure will remain in place until debris and mud are removed and the road is repaired. The cleanup and repair of the road is expected to run through the month of April.

The closure blocks off access to both drivers and pedestrians trying to access the spillway of the dam, which is a popular recreation area for anglers and rafters. The closure will make accessing fishing on the lower Blue River difficult following the successful passing of a land swap that took away access points on the river that were prized by anglers.

The Bureau of Reclamation noted that runoff may force sporadic closures throughout the spring season.
