Nancy MacDowell: Thank you, Frisco Scientists

Science Fair 2010 got off the ground with help from some very special people. Always ready and willing, our parent volunteers got students revved up for the annual event by performing demonstrations and leading experiments with students in kindergarten through fifth grade.

Kindergarten parents Melinda Henry and Tim Sabo demonstrated kitchen chemistry with baking soda and vinegar; first-graders observed and played with cornstarch quicksand alongside moms Shannon Fausel, Leanne Gentry and Melinda Henry; second-grade mom Diane Moser wore her foul-weather gear as she set off Mentos-and-diet-soda geysers with Kathy McKernan; third-graders were visited by SHS science teacher, Dr. Whiz-Bang himself, Mr. Jon Wischmeyer; and fourth- and fifth-graders made their own Silly Putty with parents Jo-Anne Tyson, Carrie Michalowski and Leanne Gentry.

Thanks to the parents and staff who helped set up and clean up the gymnasium: Dwight Tyson, Chris Reynolds, Rosie Pohle, Patty Bowers and Enrique Penillos.

To Alex Miller of the Summit Daily, thank you for getting Cindy Birchler’s photo of the second-graders into the paper on the day of the science fair.

Thanks also to the teachers who share their passion for science with their students and continue to foster enthusiasm for exploration and learning at Frisco Elementary.

My sincerest thanks to all of you!
