National EMS Week May 16-22 brings local events

SUMMIT COUNTY – First aid and CPR classes, a blood drive and blood-pressure checks will be available to local communities during National EMS Week May 16-22.

“This year’s theme acknowledges the 24/7/365 commitment our ambulance crews have to respond to medical emergencies in Summit County, regardless of time of day or weather,” according to a press release from Summit County Ambulance Service.

The local ambulance service employs 26 full-time and 27 part-time EMT-paramedics, EMT-intermediates and EMT-basics. There are three 24-hour ambulances in operation year-round, and up to six additional ambulances may be staffed as needed.

Next week’s events involve free first aid and CPR classes at the Summit County Community and Senior Center. One is Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the other is Thursday from 5:30-10 p.m. Call (970) 668-5777 to register.

Free blood-pressure checks are to occur Tuesday at City Market in Breckenridge from 9-11 a.m. and Thursday at City Market in Dillon from 9 -11 a.m.

The community blood drive Wednesday occurs at the Summit County Community and Senior Center. To register call (800) 365-0006, option 2. Walk-ins are welcome and blood-pressure checks will also be available.
