Need taxpayer support

Pete Nardell

I am writing this letter on behalf of the Volunteers of Red, White & Blue Fire Department, to express our support and to request the support of the taxpayers of the Red, White & Blue Fire Protection District.Word on the street seems to be that the volunteers are being “run out,” or eliminated from the department. I want to assure everyone that this is not the case. The administration and board of directors have repeatedly expressed that as long as there are people willing to volunteer, there will always be room for them at the RWB. This commitment saves the district $500,000 each year – why wouldn’t they support it?The essential purpose of this mill levy increase is to replace aging, outdated and unsafe equipment, as well as to hire additional staff members to keep up with the growing demands of the district. Approval of this mill levy will not immediately raise taxes. The district is requesting an additional two mills, but not all at once. The ballot question asks for the flexibility to slowly move to 7.2 mills only as needed. The district would also be able to decrease taxes if the additional funding is not necessary. Currently, the fire district has the lowest mill levy in the county for fire service, at 5.2. Over 100 emergency calls are answered each month. The citizens of the district have everything to gain from this increase and nothing to lose. The volunteers of RWB support this increase and request the voters support it as well. Allow us the ability to do a job we truly do love with the safest and most efficient equipment available to protect the people and property of our district. We encourage everyone to case a vote May 7 in support of the RWB Fire Department.Pete Nardell, president RWB volunteers
