Land near Kremmling that became public through the 2025 Blue Valley Land Exchange closed April 15 and will stay closed through June 30 to protect wildlife, according to a Bureau of Land Management news release.

The bureau’s Kremmling field office has closed the area to public motorized and mechanized travel, and the area includes about 6 miles of routes in the San Toy area and near Green Mountain Reservoir. Visitors can still access the areas on foot.

The closure will help ensure elk and bighorn sheep are not disturbed during their calving and lambing seasons, respectively, as human activity during these times can lower the survival rate of the young animals. Closures like this are annual, the release stated.

The field office has put up signs and physical barriers where appropriate and will monitor the areas as needed to assess compliance and wildlife response.
